Long known for the “biggest,” the “most expensive,” the “richest” or the “most exclusive;” Dubai once again is attempting to be the most. Currently hosting the tallest building in the world, the most expensive hotel room, the richest horse racing purse, the largest professional golf tournament prize money and the only 7 star hotel in the world; Dubai will now attempt to have the “most activities” of any Middle Eastern City this New Years Eve.
The Plan
An unofficial plan that has seen businesses team with promoters from around the world, is calling in all the heavy weights from their respective industries. Sir Elton John and Bollywood star Sunny Sarid of India to football’s Ronaldo and Disney’s Cinderella; Dubai plans over 3850 public events around the time. Glamour parties aboard multi-million dollar yachts are open to anyone who buys a ticket. Helicopter flights to private islands are open to the public for fireworks in the Persian Gulf. With a resident population of about 1.4 million, Dubai will have one event open to the public for every 363 persons.
Parties:
- Glam 08 presents a party on a private 82 foot (25 meter) yacht, fine dining, open bar and music by DJ Venus. Sailing from Bur Dubai on NYE the party will end early morning 2008.
- Oasis Palm NYE party in the desert.
- Revolve (from Robbie Williams) at Platinum List has a party for the first 400 people.
Entertainers:
- Sir Elton John and his band will play; post New Years, at the Emirates Palace Hotel.
- Gipsy Kings in the Arabian Desert with Dinner and Drinks on the 31st.
- RDB and Rishi Rich’s will be at the Tribe in Dubai
- Flamenco guitarists Alma at Seville’s
- The current holders of the Champions League Title will come to Dubai to kick off 2008's winter season on January 2, 2008. AC Milan, along with players Kaka, who was recently announced as European Footballer of the Year and awarded the Ballon d'Or; Ronaldo, himself a dual winner of the Ballon d'Or; Cafu and Clarence Seedorf will all be in attendance. They will play the UAE National Team at the Al Maktoum Stadium at the Al Nasr Sports Club on Tuesday January 8, 2008.
- The United Golf Association’s New Years Day Cup will be held at the Al Hamra Country Club on the 1st of January.
- Lexus Amateur Classic on the following day at the Dubai Country Club.
- Ski Dubai’s “Ski the New Year” special opening times.
- Jumana - Secret of the Desert – is the star attraction of Dubai land and one of the most spectacular open air stage shows in the area from December 30 - January 2nd..
- Cinderella is a "fun packed family show" playing at Madinat Theatre in Jumeirah.
- Dubai Caledonian Society’s Hogmanay Ball on New Years Eve at the Park Hyatt in Dubai.
- The Sound of Music directed by Franz Lange in the Madinat Theater
- Dubai Drums will present Desert Camp for the 2007/8 New Year
- Camp in desert with DJs, BBQs, Dancing and shows by Oasis Palm Tours.
- DJ Laurent Garnier is flying into town to perform at Trilogy in Jumeirah.
- Bollywood megastar Sunny Sarid is flying in from India, along with performer Anushka to perform at Mix in Bur Dubai.
- 1001 Arabian Nights is hosting an Arabic feast, Arabic band and belly dancers.
- The Irish Village, Diamond Club, Planetarium, Rock Bottom, Long Bar, and Scarlet's all have special DJs and entertainers flown in for NYE.
